Creator Spotlight: Max Mollison
Creator from 🇳🇿 New Zealand
Please tell us something about yourself. Where are you from and were do you work? For how long have you been creating AR filters? Are you a freelancer or a member of the company specializing in AR filters? etc.
I’m from Dunedin, New Zealand and am currently a freelancer. I started making AR filters in January 2020 and quickly became obsessed! I am originally a fashion designer and AR filters have given me a digital outlet for creating different fashionable looks and experiences. My fashion adornment-orientated AR filters can reach so many more people through digital platforms than my physical fashion garments could. No need to be in a show room or a store, you can literally try on my decorative trend-driven looks via instagram. It is fashion adornment beyond clothing and the possibilities are limitless.
How many effects have you created so far and for which platforms?
I currently have 24 live effects and they are all on Instagram.
Name the best three effects you created and briefly describe them (this effects will be featured in the article)
My best effects are Dinner’s Ready, Flora Adhesia and Salad Tosser. I consider them my best because they generate the most impressions, captures and shares on Instagram. I’ve found that any effect that is dynamic and moves is considerably more popular. Dinner’s Ready is my personal favourite and has started me on a trend of creating food themed effects.
Which platform for creating AR filters is your favourite and why?
I really enjoy Spark AR Studio, I find it so easy to navigate and there is a huge Spark AR creators community that I love to be a part of.
What in your opinion makes an AR effect successful?
A clear, uncluttered vision and using good editing. I see a lot of filters where creators try and jam pack every single effect into one AR filter. Sometimes the simplest concept can be the most successful. Also, a great name, I really enjoy making up names for my effects, thats half the fun.
