Creator Spotlight: Aminurahim Ahmad Hamim

Creator from 🇲🇾 Malaysia

Please tell us something about yourself. Where are you from and were do you work? For how long have you been creating AR filters? Are you a freelancer or a member of the company specializing in AR filters? etc.

Hello, I’am Amin, an Industrial Design graduate cum Graphic Designer who was born and raised in Penang, now based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. I’ve ventured myself in AR filters since I’ve got accepted in the closed BETA access around May 2019 and also I was part of the 2nd place winning team (alongside @omega.c, @kuno.fell.asleep, @asagi_tokyo_ and @neroone_) in the India Spark AR Hackathon December 2019. Yes, I’am a freelancer for AR filter works.

How many effects have you created so far and for which platforms?

I have over 30 effects mainly just on Instagram.

Name the best three effects you created and briefly describe them (this effects will be featured in the article)

The first one is called Slow Magic, a fandom filter turned into an official filter for Slow Magic himself.

The second is Digital Strike, a commissioned filter I did for @fridaysforfutureberlin in collaboration with Anomaly Berlin. All the artworks were hand painted by the FridaysForFuture kids. FridaysForFuture fights climate change inaction through self-expression, creativity and unity. In addition, it’s my first random filter ever.

Last but not least, I would say one out of 10 from my QRTN SERIES called QRTN-10. This was made during the quarantine period as i was trying to keep my creative juices flowing.

Which platform for creating AR filters is your favourite and why?

As for now, I’am madly in love with Spark AR because it’s literally my first love 💕

What in your opinion makes an AR effect successful?

I’m just gonna drop a quote by Andy Warhol here, “Don’t think about making art, just get it done. Let everyone else decide if it’s good or bad, whether they love it or hate it. While they are deciding, make even more art.” I pretty much live by the quote when designing filters.
